Ryde Slide 2017 cheque

The biggest, wettest and now most successful Ryde Slide!

Sunday’s slide attracted hundreds of people to come and ride the slide, raising a record breaking total of £5000 to be shared amongst Ryde charities.

2017 was the third year that the slide has come to town and the most successful yet. The event, with new title sponsors, Wightlink, sold out ahead of schedule, with a small amount of tickets available on the day.
People young and old jumped aboard the slide which was situated further down Union Street on a steeper incline, allowing for a faster slide and a giant splash at the end! New entertainment for 2017 included a giant ‘Total Wipeout’ area and Victorious Festival bar ahead of the Portsmouth festival on the 25th, 26th and 27th August.

Ryde Firefighters joined forces with Ryde Inshore Lifeboat to assist sliders from the top to the bottom. First to head down was new Island MP Bob Seeley, quickly followed by Leader of the Council Dave Stewart and slide organiser, Cllr Wayne Whittle.

The benefitting charities will be presented with their cheque on Tuesday 18th July at Ryde Fire Station. Each charity will receive £1000, the most that the slide has been able to donate since its inception in 2015.

Cllr Wayne Whittle commented “we are so pleased that the Wightlink Ryde Slide has been able to raise a record breaking amount of money to help five local charities. We want to give special thanks to the Ryde Firefighters, Ryde Inshore Rescue and all the volunteers who make this event possible. Extra thanks to Solent who organised the whole event and to HSS and all our sponsors, this has been the best year yet”

Total Wipeout Ryde Slide

Child-friendly giant inflatables will provide a ‘Total Wipeout’ at this year’s Ryde Slide. Based on the iconic TV show, this exhilarating and bouncy challenge will be located close to the beach at  Western Gardens. “It’s the perfect addition this year,” said Councillor Wayne Whittle, “we’re already planning the biggest and best slide to date and once you’re wet, you might as well go for it.”

Total Wipeout Ryde Slide

From the Big Orange Balls and Boxing Wall to the Stepping Stones and Wrecking Ball, all the TV favorites will be there to guarantee a fun-filled family day out. At 200 metres long, this year’s Ryde Slide will be bigger and faster than ever. “We’ve moved the whole slide further down Union Street to the steepest part. It will be much faster than last year and I can’t wait to try it out,” added Wayne.
